Are metal roofs environmentally friendly?

Yes, metal is considered the most environmentally friendly and sustainable roofing material available. Metal roofs are 100% recyclable and are made with a minimum of 25% recycled material, depending on the type of metal.

Are tile roofs well insulated?

Tile roofs are great insulators. The combined effect of roof tiles, decking, and air space between the tiles allows for better air circulation which can reduce direct heat transfer by up to 50%. This all adds up to lower air conditioning bills in the summer months!

Are other colors available for tile roofs besides reddish-orange?

Yes! Tile roof colors range from earth tones that blend in with the environment to vivid accent colors like black, blue, or even white to help reduce summertime cooling bills. You can also select blended colors or place different colored tiles in patterns across the roof surface. Schedule a free estimate to discover more design possibilities.

Are there tile roof shapes available other than the traditional rounded Spanish style?

Absolutely. While Spanish-style barrel-shaped tile may come to mind first, clay or concrete tile is available in a multitude of shapes, profiles, and colors to fit any architectural style. The possibilities are virtually limitless.

What can damaged or missing asphalt shingles do to your roof?

Asphalt shingle damage can leave your roof vulnerable to more extensive damage. If gaps form between shingles or parts of the roof are left exposed to the elements, water can leak down into the wooden parts of the roof. If this happens, your roof is susceptible to rot, pest infestations, and structural weakness. Unfortunately, you can’t always evaluate the health of your asphalt roof simply by looking for shingle damage. For this reason, you should schedule periodic roof evaluations with a roofing professional who can look for these specific warning signs.

What goes Into the structure of an asphalt roof shingle?

Asphalt shingles may appear simple in nature, but they actually feature a sophisticated multi-layered design that strengthens them and helps them protect your roof against weather elements. The asphalt that gives these shingles their name actually sits only on their outward-facing surface, topped by a distribution of fine granules. The asphalt itself gets mixed with other materials such as styrene to make it more durable and water-resistant.

How will a metal roof stand up to extreme weather?

A metal roof can withstand decades of abuse from extreme weather like high winds, heavy snow, hail storms, and even wildfires. Metal roofing has a 140-mph wind rating, meaning it can typically withstand wind gusts up to 140 miles per hour.

Is metal roofing noisier in bad weather than asphalt, tile, or slate roofing?

There is little difference between metal and other materials when it comes to noise from rain or hail. There are several layers installed beneath the metal surface, and normal attic insulation also absorbs most weather sounds.

Does a metal roof cost more than a typical roof?

Because metal roofing is a premium home product, you can expect your new roof to cost more than what an asphalt shingle roof costs. However, a metal roof is comparable in price to tile roofs and is more durable than asphalt shingles if maintained properly. A new metal roof can also increase your home's value by 6% on average.

Are metal roofs more susceptible to lightning?

No. Metal roofs are not more susceptible to lightning than other roofing materials.

Will a metal roof make my home hot?

Quite the opposite. A metal roof can save you money on your a/c bills thanks to higher heat reflectivity and improved emissivity compared to other roofing products like asphalt, wood, tile, etc. A metal roof can reduce cooling costs by as much as 25%!
